"perfect to stay"

This weekend was absolutely perfect. That was the response I gave all day at work when co-workers asked how my weekend was. One even commented that "perfect" is a pretty hefty word. But I stood by it, without a doubt. So so so much fun.

Thanksgiving day starts off as a winner---delicious food, pie (yes, it's food, but it's so delicious it gets its own shout-out), family. That's about all it was, and honestly, it was such a treat. We had Julia, her friend, and Rachel all come to our home in Ogden for dinner. We divvied up the main dishes and everyone pitched in. Our kitchen is pretty small with limited counter space so it's a Thanksgiving miracle that we all fit and could get all of the food completed at the same time. But it worked and we had the works- turkey (Shawn did a MARVELOUS job with the turkey), mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, gravy, jello, rolls, candied yams (the secret is to cook them in a little butter, LOTS of sugar and add marshmallows to help caramelize and crisp them up!), cranberry sauce and Julia even was kind enough to bring a green salad (which nobody even touched when given the option of everything else). Anyway, enough with the food, we finished it all off with pie. Strawberry rhubarb tarts, banana cream, pumpkin, pear cranberry, sunny silver, & apple! Pie should be eaten every day.

the gang. and I find it important to mention at this time that the pre-thanksgiving music was ABBA's Gold album. Oh. Man. I was in heaven.

oh. and hot orange drink. it's gone and I miss it so much already.

While eating pie, Rachel and Shawn were oo-ing & ahh-ing over the Peru pictures on Rachie's camera and discussing the different things and places. Shawn handed Rach her camera back but had the unfortunate luck of accidentally knocking his glass full of water all over his pie plate and onto his lap! Poor guy. You would not have thought I felt bad though in the moment. I was laughing. So. Hard. Tears were streaming & streaming.

We definitely laughed & laughed so much during dinner & the short episode of games afterward. And THAT is why Thanksgiving is so wonderful.

bah! (he's cute.)

Friday was our anniversary! Woo-woo! One year! haha But really, it has absolutely flown by (all day we just were blown away at how quickly it's gone & how lucky we have been to be together!). It was such a treat to be together all weekend and have the day off for our anniversary. Shawn surprised me with Veggie Straws, chocolate and flowers (muah!). We started with a delicious breakfast at Jeramiah's (I got french toast, bacon, sausage, eggs, hasbrowns. Heaven.) and then went up to the Brigham City temple to do sealings. We were the only couple there so we just did couples the entire time. That was so neat. It really was such a beautiful thing to be there and afterward to step into the sealing room we were sealed in. After being full of the Spirit and happpier than I could imagine, what did I suggest? Go to a movie. Which movie? The Hunger Games. haha I had a gift card from work so we felt we could splurge a bit for the special occasion. We even got popcorn! And for the record, I loved the movie. The day we got married we ate at McDonald's after we were sealed, before heading to the reception. So, the classy location has become our tradition for our anniversary fine-dinning as of year 1. We ordered it to-go this time and went home and watched the Jazz game vs. the Suns (how much more perfect could that be?!). It was absolutely perfect. (There's that word again...)

Saturday was a beautiful hike & the traditional annual trip to Temple Square with Shawn's family (which I find very humorous that it's their family tradition. A year or two before I met Shawn, I went to Temple Square with Dan, Nicole, Alli, & Jake and I basically wrote off ever going to Temple Square again for Christmas. Too many people. Too cold. The lights aren't as impressive as the Mesa Temple... Then when I met Shawn and he told me it was their yearly tradition I honestly thought he was joking just to get a rise out of me. Well I'm pretty sure I did give a rise, but only because I thought he was kidding. And as far as I can remember, when I found out it was true, all true, I was just really disappointed. However, year two has convinced me that it really isn't all that bad!).

Sunday is to go down in the history books. Since I met Shawn he told me how much he LOOOOOOOVEEEEEED Monopoly. And my reply is, "Uhg, I hate Monopoly." Well, the leaf has been turned. The game was presented to me as an option to pass the time while waiting for our laundry to finish washing while at his parents house. I said, "Sure, why not?" The compromise came when I said yes but only if we could play on the living room floor (Shawn hates playing games on the floor. I love playing card & board games on the floor. Shawn says it will get harder as I get more pregnant (update. I'm 15 weeks pregnant!) but I will forever love the ground.). He consented to the floor like a kind husband and the game commenced! I must say, it was a close one. I unfortunately did not come out the victor...but it was still so fun. My only complaint is that it's such a long game that I couldn't demand a rematch right then and there. But I really did enjoy myself so much that it's nearly all I've thought about today in my spare time! Unfortunately we don't own it (probably for the best as we have many other things to do with our time).

So am I right, or am I right? Doesn't it sound just perfect?! All in favor, say, "Aye!" :)

-Pictures for perusal-

there was napping. (update: we have a dog. Olive. half chihuahua, half whippet. She is 8. We got her in February.)

there was soulful singing. and I have NO memory of taking this picture!! that's kinda unnerving.

when all was clean and quiet, we did a sudoku puzzle. it was Shawn's first sudoku ever. he was a whiz.
