dress-up day uno

happy national nursing home week! In celebration we have a theme week and every day has a different theme that we are to dress accordingly. so check this beauty out...day one-- wild west day. Providence had it, that I went to my dear Grandma's on Friday night and had a stroke of genius---her dress up closet. So these dresses are all a million different memories of summers and cousins and fashion shows and Babes in Toyland and watching it from the stairs and playing house and walking around the beautiful lawn of my grandmas and pretending a variety of situations. i love them! my family will most definitely recognize this little gem.

This dress got two general reactions. The first being mostly from residents (although a couple of staff members joined this category as well and one wanted to get the pattern so as to make one...) and including things like, "Oh! I love your dress!" and "You look absolutely darling, how do you have the cutest dresses?" (haha) And my two favorite were from one lady in particular..."They sure used to make dresses a lot cuter. I don't like what they do nowadays." and "Do you want to switch clothes for the day?"

The second reaction was generally that of "Wow!" and "I'm sorry Michelle, I just never expected to see you...ever...in anything of that sort of...." and it usually just trailed off into nonsense as nobody could ever find quite the right words. This reaction was also mingled with laughter from both me and the other person.

We had an all-staff meeting today and I had to make an announcement for our department. Bless my administrator's heart...he made everyone applaud the dress...

All I have to say is classic. Add the bloomers that I had and it sums up to be a top-notch outfit. Thanks Grandma!

Adding to the picture-perfect day, we had Hymns-Sing-Along and our piano player was out of town. Don't worry...my years of piano lessons (with little practice to accompany) do come in handy. I felt like I should have been in a movie as some Saloon Piano Player, as I saw myself sitting there, in my minds-eye, with that lovely dress.

I just found out on Megan's blog that it was National Star Wars day on Tuesday. And the Saturday before this last one was National Comic Book Day. Who comes up with all these national days?

Anyways, Michelle, you look awesome! I miss the yellow paint in your room.
