an egg-streme surprise

Just yesterday, I was talking to a girl at work about plans for the upcoming weekend. I keep forgetting that it's Easter because it is also Julia's birthday and so we're going to go to Provo to celebrate. Well, this girl told me that she was getting together with her family to dye Easter eggs. I told her how fun that sounded and said that it just hit me that I didn't think we would be dyeing eggs this year and how sad that is. I love dyeing Easter eggs. I wish I could eat more hard boiled eggs because I would boil loads of them just so I could dye them. (I know that I could risk it and dye unboiled eggs...but I just can't seem to find that trust and confidence in myself that I could do it mess-free.)

Well, on my train ride home last night, I got a text from my awesome Shawn Barker. He said there was a surprise waiting for me at home!! I honestly had zero idea as to what it was. Zero.

When I got home I momentarily forgot about the fact that a surprise was waiting for me. When I remembered, I asked the dude where I could find this surprise of mine. He told me the fridge. And what did I behold?! A bowl of eggs! I looked at him and asked, "Are we dyeing them??" And of course, he had hard boiled 8 eggs for us to dye! How in the world does that man read my mind?! I think that he has me bugged. He actually hears all of my conversations at work. I'm probably being taped as well. No big thang. He would see a lot me sitting at my desk and staring at a computer screen. haha

Pictures of our dyeing can be found below.

But on the subject of spring and chickens, I keep having a song play in my head which reminds me of a memory that still makes me laugh aloud when I think about it.

So. One time...Shawn and I stopped off at the grocery store to pick up some things we needed. At one point he went to look for black garbage bags (for some reason I remember exactly what it was that he went to look at--weird) and I was on the aisle with the soups and tomato products. The grocery store was doing their thing---playing their cheesy, yet wonderful, blast from the past songs on the overhead speakers. As one song ended and another one began I stopped dead in my tracks. I honestly could not believe what I was hearing. The CHICKEN DANCE SONG WAS PLAING AT THE GROCERY STORE!!! There was a little girl shopping with her dad...yep, just dancing away. Other than her though, nobody else seemed phased as to the song that they were listening to. Wouldn't YOU have been shocked to hear it?!! Not shocked in a bad way. Just...surprised! I mean, I wasn't at the rollerskating rink, in an elementary school gym class, or even surfing YouTube. I was in the grocery store!! haha Luckily, Shawn came back to me while the song was still playing so I could express my disbelief. I'm pretty sure he said he was dancing along as well. haha He would. And that's why I love him.

Anyway. Totally random. Well, in my mind, it was totally random. Apparently Shawn wasn't too phased by it. And judging by the reactions of those around me, nobody else really was either. But I just thought it was so funny. So unexpected. Made me laugh.
